Sonoma Valley School District & Community Grants

Our 20th Anniversary Sonoma Plein Air Festival in September,2022 was a huge success thanks to the generosity of our wonderful Patrons, donors, artists and art aficionados. With the over $150,000 raised, the Foundation was able to fund grants for creativity development and arts education programs at many Sonoma Valley schools and through our community partners (Art Escape, the Sonoma Arts Guild, the Sonoma Community Center and the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art). We are very excited to announce the following grants for the 2022-2023 school year.

Altamira Middle School and Adele Harrison Middle School
For the 2022-2023 school year at the 2 Middle Schools, SPAF Grants provide all the supplies needed for the visual arts education programs taught by Art Teacher, Cheryl Coldiron. Almost 200 students are being served at the two schools.
These visual arts programs are an introduction to art history and art appreciation where students learn to observe, analyze and interpret. Studying art teaches an appreciation of aesthetics, beauty, proportion, emotions and understanding of the human condition. All Middle School art lessons develop hands-on skills and visual literacy.
Cheryl Coldiron quote from the grant applications for the middle schools:
"The funding from SPAF allows students the opportunity to use consumable supplies, explore new lessons, and take field trips to see original art. It allows Middle School students of Sonoma Valley the opportunity to experiment with various mediums, explore different styles of world art and create multiple 2-D and 3-D art projects. Students tells us that creating art gives them a profound sense of success and self-fulfillment."

- Art in the City for Teens provides several Sonoma teens an opportunity to visit art venues in SF such as the Palace of the Legion of Honor. This year's grant will fund 2 trips. Here are a few comments from the teens visit to the Legion of Honor in November, 2021: "The trip was really fun and informative regarding art and art history." "My favorite part of today was walking around the museum. I loved it because of all of the different types of art we got to see." "This trip was cool and special. It was my first time going to the city and now I know how different it is from Sonoma."
